In Honour of Ina

In Honour of Ina

Holiday shopping is the perfect time to buy yourself a few gifts 😉

I just picked up Ina Garten’s newest cookbook, Cooking for Jeffrey.

We love Ina, and her recipes have made many tummies happy in our house.

In Cooking for Jeffrey Ina describes the journey that brought her to cookbook writing, her true passion.  It’s a love story. In Cooking for Jeffrey Ina thanks Jeffrey for inspiring her, first to buy the Barefoot Contessa, and later, to stick with the food business, which led her to writing cookbooks.

What I like about Ina Garten’s books is that she approaches cooking for friends and family in a down to earth way. Meals should be simple and delicious so that you can enjoy your time with your guests!

When I was growing up we always had a special meal on Sundays. I do the same for my family. The meal isn’t fancy but it’s special and sets our Sunday apart from the other busy days of the week.

Last Sunday I made the skillet-roasted lemon chicken from Cooking for Jeffrey . It was super easy and delicious. I didn’t have a big enough cast iron pan, so I split the chicken among two skillets. I also improvised a bit and used chicken thighs instead of a butterflied chicken.

One of our favourite summer recipes is Ina’s fresh peach cake. We have friends who not so secretly hope that I have time to ‘whip it together’.  My daughter and her friend have now perfected the recipe.

Cooking something special for those we love tells them they’re important to us. As Ina says, “It doesn’t really matter what the occasion is – big or small – but it’s the connections that we have with people we love that nourish our souls…It’s about celebrating those connections and I think that’s what makes life worth living.”
